Consider these Best Practices....
Be Purposeful!
- Craft your lesson to transform goals and objectives through the use of technology.
- Utilize ASCD's Rubric for Effective Teacher Technology Use (Organized by the Four Domains of Danielson’s Framework for Teaching)
- Increase the rigor by pushing students toward extended thinking.
- Incorporate the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards for students into your
- Examine the SAMR model or Technology Integration Matrix to plan meaningful use of technology.
Plan Ahead!
- Map out the days you will reserve the technology carefully. It is a great idea to add an additional day for editing or unforeseen problems.
- Consider how your students will formally submit the project.
- Will they share it through GAFE or with a link?
- Are they submitting through Edmodo?
- Will they host it somewhere online?
- Does everyone have to submit using the same method?
- Check that your device, software, or website can support your project. For instance, a website that requires flash player will not work on iOS (Apple) devices
- Honor the rough draft! Encourage students to plan out their product before engaging with the technology. Storyboards can be a helpful template to use.
Enlist help!
- Collaborate with your Media Specialist, Tech Teacher, or Resource Specialist to brainstorm, develop projects, deliver instruction, or assess student work.
- Consider reserving your media center if your project will require videotaping or a larger space...you will have ample room and can supervise all of your students.
- Join forces with your content partner or another discipline!
Make it Count!
- Provide choice whenever possible and following the guidelines of Universal Design for Learning.
- Encourage high standards for student citation of materials. Try NoodleTools!
- Include an assessment of effective technology use in the project rubric

- Be mindful of age restrictions of terms of use. Be aware of the need to register or provide personal information in order to access resources. Authorized Third Party Media
- Be sure, if students are creating online profiles or need to attribute their name to work, it does not indicate their age, location, gender, or last name. Best practice is First name and Last Initial (Jennifer O or Martin K)
